Buddhist Art

Year 2014 brought many changes and shaped direction of my art. My peculiar interest in Buddhist Apsaras and idea of interreligious dialogue emerged. Academic trip to Xinjiang, Kizil Caves, was a crucial point. I visited most of the caves in the area and spent there a month, copying ancient frescos. Among works, there are both accurate copies and half creations. I painted most of them on soil/paper base, so that I could achieve realistic texture effects. As a result, they look exactly as their ancient equivalents (scratched, cracked, flaked, parts came off, rock exposed).
